The Dakotas: North and into South

7/23/24 - Still near Theodore Roosevelt NP, we enjoyed Brunch with Theodore Roosevelt in the town of Medora, ND.

We loved listening to an hour-long overview of Theodore Roosevelt's life and legacy, delivered in a very interesting way by his look-alike (Joe Wiegand)

Afterwards, I walked around the cute shops of Medora (and then walked a mile back to the RV), while Pat golfed a few miles away.

7/24/24 - Since we had seen everything of interest to us near Medora, we drove 2 hours to visit the North Dakota state capital in Bismarck.

N. Dakota capitol building, built in the 1930s following the plans Louisiana's capitol used
Although ho-hum on the outside, the inside was beautiful. Here: black granite and the heating/cooling occurs via the brass columns. Our tour guide said people hug them in the winter!
And beautiful wood everywhere

Afterwards, we had an awesome dinner in town before driving back to the RV.

7/25/24 - On the way to Bismarck, we noticed the Badlands Dinosaur Museum so we took a short detour on our way to South Dakota.

It was a small museum but we learned some new things

Bunnies have been around longer than humans :)

We have been shocked at the temperature outside!! 109F in the Dakotas...106F in Queen Creek, Arizona!! We left to escape the heat!!!

Almost every herd of cows we passed were huddled closely together. We assume it somehow keeps them cooler (or maybe something to do with flies).

My brother was born in Bismarck and I have vague memories of ND as a toddler. 😀
