Tennessee to Nebraska

9/17/26 - We left Tennessee and drove through Kentucky, Illinois, and into Missouri. Four states in one day!! We spent one night west of St. Louis.

9/18/26 - We drove briefly through Iowa on the way to Lincoln, Nebraska. We arrived early enough that we had time to take a guided tour of their truly ornate capitol building (finished in 1932).

Nebraska's capitol building has gorgeous mosaics on ceilings, walls, and floors

This specific mosaic scrolled through the area under the tower and depicted evolution from single-celled creatures to the wooly mammoth

We were also impressed with their Supreme Court. In addition to gorgeous woodwork, it was designed for perfect sound. You could easily hear whispering.

We were also surprised to learn Nebraska is the only state with ONE legislative body...called a unicameral. The 49 members make decisions (since 1937) without having to toss it back and forth between house and senate. We also got to see the governor! There was a Nebraska Hall of Fame ceremony wrapping up when we arrived.

9/19/26 - We got up early to drive ~1 hour to Omaha for our Nebraska half marathon. It crossed over the Missouri River and ended up being mostly in Iowa...but we're still counting it for Nebraska!!

We received probably our biggest medal yet!!

After driving back and relaxing, we went out for dinner in Lincoln. The restaurant was dead due to a home Nebraska Cornhuskers football game.
